Monthly Favourites- April 2014

A blog post is long overdue because, without telling anyone, I decided to take some time off to focus on my finals. I also needed to figure out where I really want things to go. I haven’t quite figured it all out yet, but I have many ideas for this blog, including new concepts, and regular posts. I am in such a good place in my life right now. I am finishing off the school year happier than I have ever been, and I’m planning to get some goals together to ensure that I am in an ever better place in September. Because (real girl problem here), I do not have it all together. I love this blogging thing, but I started with no plan, no goal, no knowledge. I also need to work out more, and keep myself on a schedule that allows me to stay tidy and focused (clean room means clean mind). Today is the last day in April which means you get to see my reflection of products and events of this month (find last month’s here)!

April was a fun month. I feel accomplished looking back. My classes ended and exams began. I got closer to some of the most amazing women I have ever met in my life because we shared our stories with each other. On Monday, I finished off my entire first year of university with my final exam. It was also my dad’s birthday last weekend, so it great to get together and share some smiles and cake. I decided to make him the Blueberry Breakfast Quesadilla for lunch and he absolutely loved it! This month was also full of procrastination, so most of these things were procrastination tools. So here are my top five favourite things of the month.

1.       Favourite Internet Item:

Picture found here.

My. Goodness. Pinterest is my addiction right now. I am so obsessed. Also, there’s this one very popular pin that has 321 repins at this current moment and I cannot understand why so many people are liking it. I mean, I have 15 followers. I am clearly not a popular pinner, so why is this going crazy? I also want to add that boards should have sub-boards. I mean, I have an ever-growing food board, but I would like to sort my things into one larger category without having a million boards all over the place. Anyone else have this problem?

2.       Favourite TV Show:

You know how binge eating is considered an addiction? Well, binge watching should most definitely be placed in the same category. I watched two and half seasons of Friends in two days. I have spent many nights up until three in the morning watching Friends. I LOVE IT! I love the drama, and the goofiness, and this is exactly what I want in my future life. But maybe with a little less heartbreak. I’m currently on Season 10 (clearly, because this was right on my nightstand). It is my addiction. I was way late getting on this bandwagon, but I am so happy that I did.

3.       Favourite Food:

I tell kids that gum is considered food because you can still choke on it, and so gum will be classified as food. Here’s something about me: I actually hate chewing gum. I hate it when other people chew gum. But this month, I have been chewing gum so much. I think it’s a stress/anxiety thing. Plus, I heard that it stimulates brain cells or something. This is the type I’ve been chewing, but I’m not all that picky with my flavours.

4.       Favourite Accomplishment:

Once upon a month ago, I wrote a history essay. It kept me up for several nights in a row. My prof did not let us use word count the normal way. We had to MANUALLY COUNT the words. I also got an upper year friend to edit it for me and he tore it apart. I felt so awful when I handed it in. It was the worst thing I ever had to do in 15 years of school. So when I got it back at the beginning of the month, I was pleased to find out that I was among the handful of people that pulled off an A. I am so proud of myself, and I learned that asking for help is amazingly beneficial (something that always comes as a shock to me)

5.       Favourite Event:

I AM DONE FIRST YEAR OF UNIVERSITY! No picture for this one, but Happy is basically my feeling walking out of my last exam. It was an amazing year. I met the most amazing people, got close to old friends, and I accomplished so much! I cannot wait for next year!

I honestly have no idea what to look forward to in May. I have one soph weekend event, but other than that, I have no idea what my plans are. I am going to sit down tomorrow and make a plan though. But summer is here (although spring weather hasn’t even hit in Canada) and the possibilities are endless!

Pinterest Challenge- Brownie Oatmeal

I was doing my lovely rounds on Pinterest for my Pinterest Challenge and I found this recipe for Brownie Oatmeal from Dashing Dish. I mean, it had me at Brownie. I have a lot more chocolate products on my food board if you're interested. As I mentioned on my Very Inspiring Blog Award, I love breakfast, so I made this power oatmeal for the morning before an exam.  I did end up changing the recipe to suit my own tastes, and it’s pretty easy to make.
Brownie Oatmeal
·         1 cup of coconut milk
·         ½ cup of Greek yogurt
·         2 tbsp cocoa powder
·         1/8 tsp salt
·         2 tbsp honey
·         1 ¼ cup oatmeal

Add the coconut milk.

Add the Greek yogurt.

Add the cocoa.

Add the salt.

Add the honey.

Add the oats.

Stir all the ingredients until thoroughly mixed.

Separate into two bowls/cups/mugs.

Place in the fridge overnight.

I forgot to get pictures of me taking them out of the fridge, but I had the oatmeal both hot and cold. I preferred it hot, but it was not my favourite breakfast. I thought it smelled better than it tasted. I do not think I will be making it again. You can check out the original on my Pinterest challenge board, because I don’t know how to make my pictures Pin-able yet (UPDATE: all my pictures are now pin-able). Let me know if you try it out!

Very Inspiring Blog Award

Yay yay yay, I got nominated for the Very Inspiring Blog Award from Marlee at Marlee and You! Now, you can learn even more about me! Pretty exciting isn’t it? The hardest part is gathering all the 15 bloggers to tag. But hey, I got this!

1.       Link the person who nominated you (CHECK)
2.       List and display the rules (CHECK)
3.       Share seven facts about yourself.
4.       Nominate 15 other blogs and let them know they have been nominated.

My Seven Facts:
1.       My favourite meal is breakfast. Although I basically only eat milk and cereal, I love the variety of things you can have. I just made myself a Blueberry Breakfast Quesadilla, and it was amazing!
2.       My all time favourite website is HelloGiggles. I have recently taken on the title of a feminist, and this website has been a great way to see that other women share the same views as me.
3.       I’m not a chick-flick kind of girl. James Bond and Indiana Jones are the best. I’m on the last two movies of Harry Potter with my dad.
4.       I try to win people over with my baking.
5.       I’m a people person, and I am energized by being around people. That also means that I am deeply affected by people who are negative.
6.       I used MTV’s Match Machine App and it matched me with the guy my mom is 100% sure I’m meant to be with.
7.       I want to be with a guy that I can jam in the car with. I do it with my sister, and it’s one of my favourite things to do.

Pinterest Challenge- Blueberry Breakfast Quesadilla

It is exam time! This means I have a lot more time to myself, and that means I have been spending a lot more time procrastinating. New obsession? Pinterest. My good friend Marlee from Marlee and You has challenged me to a Pinterest challenge. Instead of simply doing three things a month, I will do one thing a week. It can vary from recipes like I have done this week, or decorations for my bedroom. This will replace my outfit posts since I will not have enough outfits a week to create a sufficient blog post.

Now, I found this recipe last night on Pinterest, but it is originally from Daydream Recipe. I loved it. I love blueberries. And I love food. I feel like everyone has a food board, but you can follow mine here. Anyway, this recipe was really simple to make. The original recipe calls for a cinnamon spread, but I didn’t have one so I made my own (my mom was proud).

Blueberry Quesadilla

For the Cream Cheese Spread:

·         2 tablespoons cream cheese
·         1 tsp cinnamon
·         ½ tsp hot chocolate mix

For the Quesadilla:

·         One large tortilla
·         Blueberries

For the Cream Cheese Spread:

Whip the cream cheese until it is smooth.

Add the cinnamon and the hot chocolate mix and whip until it is mixed.

For the quesadilla:

Heat a non-stick pan on medium heat.

Spread the cream cheese spread on half of the tortilla.

Place the blueberries evenly on top of the spread.

Fold the tortilla in half, and place in the pan.

Cook until it is golden brown and flip.

Place on a plate and eat up!

Like I said before, this was amazing. It was a great breakfast. Let me know if you try it out! I don't know how to make my pictures Pin-able yet , so you'll have to suffice with the original (UPDATE: all my pictures are now pin-able). I will also put all the things I have tried out on my Pinterest Challenge board.

Comment if you tried this out or if you have a breakfast recipe for me to try (I love breakfast).

Copycat the Cool Way #5

I am so sorry that this was not posted on Friday. I was not home at all on Friday, and I was dealing with Internet connection issues for the rest of the weekend. I have a different issues now. I am finishing school up right now (literally sitting in my last class), so I will no longer have Monday-Friday outfits. I may have a different solution, but it could take some planning. Stay tuned!

Here we go:

Monday- My sister came up with this little number for me. The sweater is one of my favourites. It makes me so happy!

Jeans-Old Navy
Sweater- Old Navy
Scarf- Old Navy
Jacket- Wal-Mart

Tuesday- I found this outfit via Pinterest, and it worked out really nicely for this day. This thick wool sweater worked out very nicely, as it was a mild day. All I needed was the sweater!

Scarf- Old Navy
Sweater- Roots
Jean- Old Navy
Boots- Wal-Mart

Wednesday- Even now, I am so happy with the way this outfit turned out. It is probably one of my favourite ensembles ever. I found it through Pinterest, but it is on Penny Pincher Fashion.

Blazer- American Eagle
Button-up- Roots
Tank Top- Zellers (when it was open)

Thursday- This outfit was very simple. I love this button up because it’s so loose and comfortable. I found it in GL magazine. The picture is currently not loading. Also, I just woke up from a nap so this is my sleepy look.

Button-up- Old Navy
Sweater- Garage
Jeans- Old Navy

Bonus- Like I said, I have a busy day, so my on Friday outfit is nothing special. So here is my Ashley Spinelli costume from a couples costume party I went to last weekend. I think I nailed it!

Hat- It's actually a Despicable Me hat and
I got it with the movie
Jacket- Smart Set
Dress- Suzy Shier
Socks- Ardene
Boots- Sorel

Nails of the Week- This was a gift to me. It is Urban Outfitters brand, but I don't know if there is a name to it.I loved this nail polish because it was sparkly, but it also had the base colour.

This was short and sweet. I will not make a habit out of doing these posts in a rush anymore.
